Lenoir County Schools: Schools will be closed all this week due to road conditions, rising river levels and other impacts from Hurricane Florence. This announcement is an update to our previous message closing schools through Wednesday. LCPS is now adding Thursday, Sept. 20, and Friday, Sept. 21, to the closing schedule. Information about the next week’s schedule will be provided as soon as an assessment of conditions allows.

Updates from Lenoir County SPCA
Update 9/18/18 AM: Our main animal shelter’s phone @ 2455 Rouse Rd Extension near the airport in Kinston is still out of service, so citizens will not be able to call 252-520-0003. That shelter should be open to accept homeless/lost pets until roughly 4 PM Mon-Sat. There are no animals available for adoption at this time.
ROAD UPDATE: according to the NCDOT website this morning, the only Lenoir County Hwy that is closed is Hwy 11 South. Hwy 258 South is still open to Hwy 70, and Hwy 903 South is open from Hwy 55 West to Hwy 70 in Kinston. Hwy 258 N and Hwy 58 N are open all the way from Hwy 70 to Felix Harvey Parkway to our animal shelter at 2455 Rouse Rd Extension, Kinston. Animals should still be transported to our main shelter unless an emergency or unless roads become inaccessible, as the accommodations there are better for the animals and there are limited resources & personnel at the emergency shelter at Canady’s Truck Garage on Hwy 11 S next to Kinston Drag Strip. Canady’s continues to be a donation drop site for emergency pet supplies for the Lenoir County SPCA, and can accept emergency animals from southern Lenoir County from roughly 9 AM-4 PM that cannot get to the main shelter near the airport. Thank you for sharing!
